About Chiringa Chop Chop
Chiringa Chop Chop is a website created by DCSquare3D LLC to celebrate Puerto Rican culture and the universal joy of kite flying. What started as a simple family project has grown into a full-featured browser game and cultural resource.
The game is built entirely with vanilla HTML5 technologies — no external game engine, no framework, no image assets. Every background is rendered in real time using the Canvas API. The soundtrack is generated procedurally using the Web Audio API, drawing from Puerto Rican musical genres including bomba, plena, salsa, trova, and reggaetón. Multiplayer uses peer-to-peer WebRTC connections through PeerJS.
This website also serves as an educational resource about chiringa culture — the history of kite flying in Puerto Rico, how to build and fly your own chiringa, festival guides, safety tips, and the art of kite combat. All cultural content is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Hindi.
Technical Achievement
A single HTML file (~12,000 lines) containing the complete game engine, 7 hand-drawn levels, procedural music in 5 Puerto Rican genres, full i18n in 4 languages, and peer-to-peer multiplayer. Zero external dependencies beyond PeerJS and Google Fonts.
Cultural Mission
Chiringa Chop Chop exists to keep the tradition of flying chiringas alive in the digital world. Every design decision — from the colors on the player's kite to the bomba rhythms in the soundtrack — is grounded in Puerto Rican cultural identity.
